THE OLYMPIC PARKA

The Piece

The Piece

Nothing on it is decorative. Every closure, seam and reinforcement on this parka is doing a job. That is the discipline of costume, carried into a garment made to be owned rather than worn once.

The Olympic Parka

cut to order, for the wet season

The body is cut from a substantial brushed cotton that is heavy enough to hold its lines. It is also softly brushed so it softens with wear instead of stiffening.

The parka is quilted throughout in a diamond stitch and lined in champagne satin.

The details come from workwear and military outerwear..

A buckled throat strap at the collar, ribbed knit storm cuffs set beneath buckled cuff tabs, chevron-stitched welt pockets, an X-yoke across the shoulders front and back, and a curved shirttail hem with zips released at the side seams.

Cloth is 100% cotton double-face brushed drill, 275 g/m², in ochre color. Quilted throughout.
Lining is Diamond-quilted satin, champagne
Hardware uses Antique brass snaps, buckles and grommets
Cuffs feature ribbed knit storm cuffs beneath buckled tabs
Hood is attached, quilt-lined, buckled throat strap
Designed & Developed in Los Angeles, CA

Made the way it's worn. For weather, and for keeping.

The Designer

The Designer

Wendy Chuck has spent three decades deciding what a character wears, and why.

She has dressed Alexander Payne's Midwesterners in Nebraska, Election's conniving high schooler, Spotlight's journalists, the inhabitants of Downsizing's miniaturized world …and the teenage vampires of one of the most widely seen films of a generation.

Trained in fashion in Australia, she refined her craft as a cutter, fitter and tailor for ABC TV and Opera Australia in Sydney, then spent a decade freelancing in London: styling musicians, six years designing costume at the BFI Museum, and teaching at the City Literary Institute.

She won the Costume Designers Guild award for About Schmidt, and has been nominated for Nebraska, The Descendants, and by the Australian Film Institute for Country Life.

The Olympic Parka is the first piece she has made under her own name.

Pre-Order

Why this is a pre-order

Each parka is made
because you asked for it

These parkas do not exist yet. The orders placed in this window are what pay for the cloth, the hardware, the grading and the labour to make them.

It is the oldest arrangement in tailoring, and truthful. A run this small cannot be built on speculation. Ordering now is what brings it into existence, which is why the price during the festival window is $350 rather than $399.

1. You reserve

You choose your size and pay in full. Your size is held against the run.

2. The run is cut

Once the window closes, cloth is cut to the sizes ordered. You'll hear from Wendy when it happens.

3. It ships

Your parka is finished, packed and sent, with tracking. Estimated delivery window is currently late December.

*If the drop date moves, you will be told before it passes, not after, and a refund is yours for the asking.

The Fit

Fit & Sizing

How it runs

The Olympic Parka is cut long —hitting mid-thigh on most wearers— with a soft, unstructured shoulder and room across the chest and through the sleeve for a knit underneath.

It's built for weather, which means it's built to be layered. If you're between sizes, or in any doubt, size up. The extra room is where a sweater goes, the length skews winter, and the slightly relaxed line is precisely where outerwear is sitting right now. On a coat like this, you will not regret the larger size.

Full garment measurements —back length, chest, shoulder, sleeve— are in the size chart beside the size selector, in both inches and centimetres.
Sizes run XS–XXXL.
